Small Farm ~

20 Aug

Growing your own food is as easy as putting seeds in the ground. However there are many more difficult items to think about if you plan on developing a survivor community in your neck of the woods. Crop rotation is not as easy as it sounds, planting the vegetables you eat the most of at the right time so your family is not out is thought provoking. Luckily we live in a climate where we can plant year round, it will be more difficult to grow vegetables and other food items in an environment where you need to consider weather patterns, seasonal patterns, as well as which crop grows in which condition of the season.

The peppermint we have growing as a ground cover is taking off very well, but that is here.. So if you are reading this from an area that has cooler climates or perhaps a winter season check to ensure it will grow there. Practicing planting, and learning what to plant when is very important. Another example is cold cellars we do not need them here as we eat as we grow no need to store unless we are canning. If you live in a climate where there is snow you should research the different cellar methods. I like to walk around the garden and have a nice vegetable bowl full of clean organic veggies as well as our other food items from the farm ready to go for the morning meal!

A few pics of the growing abundance of the farm! Happy planting!

Gorilla Pulley ~

27 Apr

I love my new friend, so do the men. They love that I am not yelling for help lifting and carrying large items now that I have my Gorilla Pulley – We are working on the spice trail, the spice trail has spice trees and papaya trees, as well as other various plantings all edible! After the spice trail natural food path we will be developing a tea garden with holy basil, green tea, as well as a white tea variety and chamomile. The goal is to have you walk along the trail and gather what you need for a hot tea, a hot or cold meal or a snack! I could not do this without my new friend Gorilla Pulley!!
